Something really beautiful.
Something made to last.
Something made to share.
I waited 36 years to hear the word
"it was all happening just as fast as everyone had promised."
She was my first, and of course, I posted that proud moment online as soon as it happened.
I realized that in a few short months, this beautiful moment would be ancient history. It was all happening just as fast as everyone had promised.
A friend from across the country replied:
"Just wait until she says "I love you."
In that moment, my heart stopped.
not your average
Within the year, I had packed all of my things into a PODS container that would meet me across the country just in time to start the fall semester at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend a real brick-and-mortar photography school, as most photography training is now only available online or via trial-and-error.
It is for this reason that I feel comfortable saying that I am not the average baby and family photographer. Being a good photographer involves so much more than owning a good camera and knowing how to set it on AUTO. It is an art, but also a craft...there are volumes of information on lighting, posing, post-processing, and producing a high-quality final product...not to mention the skills needed to put parents and children at ease in order to encourage their truest selves to shine through. Much of this comes naturally to me, but I've also dedicated myself to studying the art and science of my craft in order to be able to build a business based on a superior customer experience.
"I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend a REAl photography school"
The year was 2009. I was sitting alone in my high-rise apartment, just off of Michigan Avenue in Chicago. I found myself chewing on the end of my pen and glancing around my apartment...I was enrolled in a class at DePaul University called "Career versus Calling" and we had an exercise where we were supposed to think of what we did in our spare time that we did without feeling like we were working...the thing that got us 'in the zone.'
I looked around...wow, the place was kind of a mess. If only all those frames and photos weren't covering the counter. Photo gifts that I was going to send to my family...a gallery wall of photos I had taken while traveling the world for the past few years. I guess you would call that my 'Aha!' moment.
Within moments, I found myself online, looking for photography schools.
Like every parent (or parent-to-be) out there, you are busy. You are working hard to provide for your family, and time is a luxury that you wish you had more of...
I totally get it.
My goal is for your portrait experience to be enjoyable and memorable, NOT a source of stress. Before we even meet for your session, I will provide you with the opportunity to share how you envision displaying and preserving your images...and I will plan your session accordingly.
You wouldn't even be looking to hire a photographer if you were okay with it just being average.
You want your session to be amazing.
You have good taste and good style, but you are open to new ideas.
In fact, you welcome them. You love the idea of using a styling consultant to help you plan your outfits for the session.
You love your family and the natural way you interact with one another. The bond you have with each other. THAT is what you want captured...you want honest moments, but you also want them to look polished and Pinterest-worthy.
Your significant other might be totally on-board with this...or might be going with the flow for a few hours just to make you happy.
I totally get it.
I don't make anyone do anything they don't want to and one of my favorite parts of the experience is getting everyone into that 'comfort zone' where their truest selves start to shine through.
That's when the magic happens.
I promise I'll have my camera ready to capture it all.
A few weeks after your session, we will meet again and I will have the privilege of showing you the beauty I see in your family. This is DEFINITELY the best part of the process. Seeing your family through an artistic lens is such a special moment. I'm not going to lie...it is my goal to move you to tears with the images from your session...and many times, I find myself joining right in with you.
After the reveal, we will work together to create the perfect pieces for your home and your lifestyle.
Simply put...the BEST location for baby, child and family photography in San Francisco's East Bay.
